Immune system’s outlook on man-made chemicals
Lets start philosophically:
- how do you know your friends?
- how you distinguish friend from foe?
Experience! Information…
You’ve got many sources to get almost any kind information. You can chat with friends and neigbours, go to Internet, watch TV, visit your doctor, read magazine…
You decision whom and what to trust is always a mixture of your beliefs and information you’ve got.
Your immune system hasn’t got such a luxury. It does it’s best to defend your body from all sorts of enemies.
We all are extremely lucky. Immune system is extremely profound, firstly recognizing ‘bad guys’, secondly destroying and eliminating them.
Everything is OK when:
- environment is stable - no new players enter
- immune system is strong and robust
Unfortunately, nowadays situation has tremendously changed and is far from perfect
80,000 chemicals have been approved for use in our [USA] environment. Every year 1700 new chemicals are approved - that’s middling 5 a day.
Even if all these chemicals were non-toxic, what would or could be immune system’s reaction to such an overwhelming number of newcomers?
Regretfully, usually chemicals aren’t so innocent - they are toxic
As majority of all chemicals are organic, they easily enter body. Again, as there are lots of chemicals in an environment, immune system is attacked with chemic cocktails.
If it was me, I’d definitely be confused.
By the way - the best definition of confused is: "Impaired orientation with respect to time or place".
Similar business must happen to immune system. And happens.
Result:
The top scientists … agree that something in our environment … is causing this health crisis. They are convinced that the cause of this [autoimmune] epidemic … lies primarily in our environment and in all the toxins, pesticides, heavy metals and chemicals that have become a part of our everyday living
Here we are:
Humans want better and (necessarily) convenient life
That’s OK
But price must be paid
